From the ITPC Executive Director
Dear Community Partner:
We are very proud to be the Presenting Sponsor of Indiana Black
Expo’s 40th Annual Summer Celebration, the state’s largest smoke
free, cultural event.
Since 2002, Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation has partnered with IBE to help inform the community about the
dangers of tobacco use, the costs of smoking and the benefits of tobacco cessation. Not only has IBE established a
resolution to maintain smoke free offices and events throughout its 12 chapters, but it has also received commitments from
many churches and small minority-owned businesses to establish policies to keep their premises smoke free.
Our partnership with IBE is vital to the well-being of the community and to our businesses. Tobacco kills time, money and
lives, including more than 27 Hoosiers every day –more than any other single cause. Furthermore, it is the leading
preventable cause of death for African Americans. Resources are available for employers seeking best practices for
smokefree policies and for smokers who are trying to quit, for family and friends who want to help loved ones stop smoking.
Our goal is to help make our communities healthier by working with IBE to continue serving as a voice and vehicle to help
those who want to break their addiction. We are confident that this partnership will help generate healthier lifestyles and
extend our reach to thousands more. Call 1-800-QUIT-NOW if you or someone you know needs help quitting tobacco use.
Be sure to join in on the fun at IBE’s 40th Annual Summer Celebration, July 8 – 18, 2010.
