Youth Programs

The Youth and Family Programs Department strives to serve as a catalyst throughout Indiana to foster relationships between businesses, governmental agencies, educational institutions, youth service agencies, churches and other community based organizations. This department serves as a clearinghouse for quality chapter youth programs that address issues affecting youth while preparing them for full participation in society as adults. And finally, this department actively involves IBE staff and volunteers in program administration so that they keep abreast of issues and trends affecting African-American families and youth. Below are some of the programs. Click below for more information on our programs:

The State of Our Black Youth Report (SOBY)

The State of Our Black Youth Report (SOBY) is an assessment of the quality of life for African American youth living in Indiana. Indiana Black Expo, Inc. has incorporated three incarnations of the study – the most recent released in December 2012. Indiana Black Expo, Inc. engaged Engaging Solutions, LLC and The Polis Center at IUPUI to develop the 2012 report. The purpose of this report is to provide comprehensive data to assist in the allocation of appropriate services and programs to Indiana’s over 200,000 Black youth. The 2012 report, third in the series, provides updates for data contained in the 2005 and 2007 reports, as well as data for new indicators. Additionally, the report offers promising practices to address challenges and enhance strengths identified by the data.
